How Cold Weather Affects Motor Oil Performance

To combat the challenges of winter, vehicle owners should use motor oil rated for their climate and perform regular oil changes. Synthetic oils are particularly beneficial in cold weather due to their superior low-temperature performance. Additionally, warming the engine with block heaters in extreme cold can help reduce start-up wear and promote better oil circulation, as well as an oil pan heater.


Understanding how cold weather affects motor oil ensures engines remain well-protected, even in the harshest winter conditions. Proper maintenance and the use of appropriate oil types are critical for vehicle reliability and longevity.
